Recently, according to comprehensive information from China Petroleum Network, the International Energy Agency (IEA) released a report titled "2021 Global Energy Assessment", which shows that global energy demand will increase by 4.6% in 2021.

IEA believes that 70% of global energy demand growth occurs in emerging markets and developing countries. Apart from the international aviation sector, global oil demand is expected to return to pre pandemic levels in the second half of this year; The demand for natural gas increased by 3.2% year-on-year, with China leading the demand growth; The share of renewable energy in the global electricity structure will increase to 30%.

According to the report, global fossil energy demand will show significant growth this year. The global economic revitalization supported a year-on-year growth of 6% in oil demand, which is 5.4 million barrels per day, but still 3.2% lower than the 2019 level. It is expected that oil demand will significantly rebound in the second half of this year.

Thanks to the growth in demand in Asia, the Middle East, and Russia, global natural gas demand is expected to increase by 3.2% year-on-year in 2021. China leads the growth of global natural gas demand, with a 14% increase in demand in 2021 compared to 2019 (approximately 44 billion cubic meters). In the European Union, high carbon prices have provided support for the growth of natural gas demand. The first quarter data shows that natural gas demand in Europe increased by 8% year-on-year.

This year, global renewable energy generation has increased by more than 8% year-on-year, and is expected to reach 8300 terawatt hours, increasing its share in the global electricity structure to 30%. Photovoltaic and wind power generation will account for two-thirds of the increase in renewable energy generation. Wind power generation is expected to increase by 275 terawatt hours compared to the previous year, with a growth rate of 17%; Photovoltaic power generation has increased by 18% year-on-year, reaching 1000 terawatt hours. China's renewable energy generation increment is expected to account for half of the global total, followed by the United States, the European Union, and India. (Reporter Dong Xuan)
